Overall, set-up was intuitive and quick. Some other reviewers have indicated that set-up was confusing. It seemed simple to me. Materials are what one would expect in a higher-end backpacking tent, and after 16 tent nights, all materials are like new. Weight was as advertised at 4lbs-6oz. For the amount floor space and usable space that this tent provides, its low weight and small pack size are impressive.
It has an incredible space to weight ratio. Many tents these days are around the 4lb mark, but most are so small that my dog barely fits inside, alone. One of the reasons for purchasing the Aura was the dimension of the footprint. I am 6′-1″ and often my head and/or feet would eventually be pressed against the tent walls. The Aura is a long tent from The PNW and I have inches to spare at both my head and feet. This is all the more remarkable considering the low weight of the Aura.
The Aura has nearly vertical walls. Even in the dampest of conditions, any condensation on the inside of the fly simply rolls away and the living space stays dry. Vertical walls also increase the useable space inside the tent. Traditional dome style tents lose much of their interior space in the corners. The use of knee-pole designs really opens up the interior of the Aura. Yet another benefit of the vertical wall is that when opening the fly in wet conditions no water drips into the tent. This is a pet peeve of mine and numerous tents that I’ve owned over the years have had this problem. There is little worse than unzipping the fly only to have water pour onto your sleeping bag. Not a problem with the Aura.
Overall, the Aura is a rugged, roomy, lightweight, durable backpacking tent. A job well done Marmot!
